2023 Medtronic/BMES Student Design Competition
This annual competition gives students the opportunity to showcase their technical skills to Medtronic representatives and BMES members by creating and engineering innovative designs. It also provides students with a chance to network with product development and design professionals in the BME industry. This year's design competition will feature four tracks, and four finalist teams will be selected from each track.
The Four Track Categories:
- Mechanical/Electrical
- Electrical/Computer Science
- Chemical/Biological
- 2023 Special Category: AI/ML related to treatment of Cardiac, Respiratory, or Stroke diseases
Please ensure your submission is unique and aims to improve upon current medical devices and practices already in place.
Finalists (top three teams from each track, 12 teams total) will receive:
- A complimentary Annual Meeting registration to offset costs.
- A certificate of achievement
At least one member of each of the 12 finalist teams must attend, in person, the final round of competition in Seattle.
Winning Teams (one team from each track, 4 teams in total)will receive:
- $2,500 cash prize
- An engraved trophy
- The opportunity to discuss the design’s commercialization potential with a Medtronic representative.
The four finalists teams will present their designs to judges, in a final round of competition, at the 2023 BMES Annual Meeting.
Other Important Information:
- Design project proposals must be submitted by BMES student(s) or Student Chapters
- All participating teams must be comprised of BMES student members with an active membership
- You can only submit your design to one track. You may only enter each track once, but you may submit secondary designs to the other tracks.
