BMES Athanasiou Medal of Excellence in Translational Bioengineering
The BMES Athanasiou Medal of Excellence in Translational Bioengineering Award (the Athanasiou Medal) recognizes achievements of an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the field of biomedical engineering with particular focus on translation. Achievements include significant research contributions in translational bioengineering and/or development of new products in biomedical engineering.
The awardee must be a BMES member in good standing who has demonstrated significant leadership and achievements in biomedical engineering and contributions to BMES as a society.

Application Requirements
- Nominee's full CV.
- A letter describing the nominees significant research contributions in translational bioengineering and/or the development of new products in biomedical engineering. This letter should be sent directly to Katherine@bmes.org.
- Three confidential letters of support for the nominee's contributions (no longer than two pages each). The letters should attest to the nominee’s impact in translational bioengineering and leadership in biomedical engineering. Leadership can include department and university leadership, leadership in BMES and BME-related societies, meeting and/or workshop organization, mentoring, leadership in funding panels and directives, editor of BME-related journals, etc. Letters should be sent directly to Katherine@bmes.org.
- Nominee must be a BMES member in good standing and demonstrate participation, activity, and/or contributions to BMES as a society including service on BMES committees, Board of Directors, Editorial team of BMES Journals, Annual Meeting planning, and/or serving as an abstract reviewer, session chair, and/or track chair, as examples.

Award and Honorarium
The recipient receives complimentary registration for the Annual Meeting, where they will present their lecture, plus a medal and an honorarium of $5,000.
**The Awards Committee will screen all nominations, critically evaluate the nominee's records, and submit its recommendation to the BMES Executive Committee for approval.
