About Us
Established in 1968, the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is the professional Society for students, faculty, researchers, and industry professionals in biomedical engineering. Since 2002, BMES has been the lead ABET Society accrediting biomedical engineering educational programs.
Our Mission
To promote a collaborative and inclusive community to advance human health through education, discovery, and translation. This mission drives our research and educational initiatives, including webinars, chapter programs, and meetings.
Our members share a vision of health and wellness for all through engineering innovation and a steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Attendance at our annual meetings hover around 5,500 attendees who attend more than 2,500 scientific presentations on areas ranging from cancer treatment, to heart disease, women’s health, global health disparities, and more. The meeting enables members to advocate for their innovative solutions, and demonstrate their commitment to the Society’s core value of health equity for all individuals. In addition, BMES shares scientific information to inspire the up-and-coming generation through four scientific journals, four special interest groups, and collaboration with other scientific societies to elevate the visibility and significant impact that the biomedical engineering community has worldwide.
BMES sits at the center of the biomedical engineering ecosystem, connecting academia/research, industry, government, clinicians and biomedical engineering philanthropy.
