Greetings BMES Community!
As I begin my third month at BMES, I want to connect with you and provide some initial observations and comments. First, know that it is a sincere pleasure and honor for me to be a part of this amazing Society.
Although I’m new to BMES, I’m not completely new to biomedical engineering. I’ve worked in the engineering space for years and have collaborated with many biomedical engineers on various interesting projects.
I understand that everyone’s level of involvement with BMES varies. Some of you are very active volunteers, while others are more passive members. Whatever your level of involvement, I want to thank you for your continued support of BMES – the organization that, for most of you, is your professional home.
I invite you to continue taking advantage of the existing opportunities that BMES offers to help you navigate your career path. I also encourage you to help me ideate and develop new ways to engage and to grow the Society. Drop me a note (falcionij@bmes.org) with ideas on how to make BMES an even better professional home for biomedical engineers.
As you might imagine, I’ve been giving a lot of thought to our short-term goals and long-term strategies. I’m lucky to have the tireless support of BMES President Cynthia Reinhart-King, and the rest of the Board of Directors, to think differently and creatively about ways to help further achieve our ambitious mission and vision.
This year BMES, like other organizations, is rebounding from the repercussions of COVID-19, and I’m happy to report that this year’s Annual Meeting is shaping up as another great event. Our abstract submissions and the early interest in exhibits for the upcoming meeting in Seattle indicate that we’re coming back in full force in 2023. Our conference program Co-Chairs are excited and planning some surprises for this year’s meeting! If you haven’t done so yet, consider taking a moment now to take advantage of Early Bird registration pricing.
You’ll continue to hear from me from time to time. I’ll update you on organizational progress and share community news.
As members of BMES, you are our ambassadors. As we grow BMES and make the work of biomedical engineers and those in allied fields more visible, I encourage you to share with me news of your research, activities, and accomplishments.
I hope you will be in touch, and I look forward to meeting many of you in Seattle this October.
