BMES grants its prestigious Fellow designation to select members who have demonstrated excellence in the field. To become a Fellow, members must have demonstrated impactful achievements and have made significant contributions to the biomedical engineering community. The BMES Board of Directors grants this distinguished honor.

Each year, BMES members whose contributions to the biomedical engineering field have been exceptional, qualify for this nomination. After applications are thoroughly reviewed and evaluated by the Fellows Nominating Committee, recommended individuals will be presented to the Board of Directors for confirmation.

2024 BMES Fellows

Nehal Abu-Lail

For outstanding contributions to the development of educational programs, training diverse BME students through research and educational programs, and service to the BME community through professional, academic, and K-12 outreach endeavors.

B. Rita Alevriadou

For pioneering cellular and molecular work on vascular endothelial mechanotransduction and mitochondrial redox signaling, and for service to the Society.

Rohit Bhargava

For developing chemical imaging technology, from theory to commercial translation, and its biomedical and clinical applications. For contributions to forming and leading the first engineering-based cancer center in the US.

Guohao Dai

For contributions in vascular mechanobiology, 3D bioprinting vascular networks for tissue engineering, regenerative medicine applications, and transcriptional regulation of arterial venous vascular differentiation in health and diseases.

Craig Goergen

Dr. Goergen's pioneering work in 4D ultrasound, capturing three-dimensional images of the heart over time, and biomechanics-inspired image analysis for quantifying cardiovascular function, significantly advanced disease diagnostics, and treatment planning.

Warren Grayson

Dr. Grayson has developed advanced biomaterials and imaging techniques to advance tissue engineering applications. His presentations have also helped to educate the public and policy-makers on regenerative medicine strategies.

Aysegul Gunduz

Dr. Gunduz’s work has had a real impact on improving neurosurgical patients’ lives, the goal for BMES. She is the recipient of many recognitions, including the highly competitive PECASE Award and election as AIMBE Fellow.

Miiri Kotche

Exceptional leadership, service, and scholarship in biomedical engineering and medical innovation education, including intentionally designed diversity and inclusion efforts in elementary, high school, and undergraduate programs through industry employment.

Celeste Nelson

For significant contributions to our understanding of the bioengineering, biophysics, and mechanobiology of multicellular tissues, in the context of normal development and disease.

Syam Nukavarapu

Made outstanding contributions to the development of biomaterial grafts and regenerative strategies for musculoskeletal tissues and interfaces, along with his significant contributions to the BMES mission.

Christine Scotti

Recognized leader in Computational Modeling and Simulation, invited to attend NAE Frontiers of Engineering for contributions to Medical Products, ASME V&V40 Standard co-author which led to FDA guidance document.

LaKiesha Williams
