Call for BMES Board Nominations

The BMES Nominating Committee is happy to announce the opening of nominations for the prestigious positions of BMES President-Elect (one year as President-Elect beginning October 2025, two years as President, one year as Past President), Treasurer (two-year term beginning in October 2025), and four seats on the BMES Board of Directors (three-year terms beginning in October 2025).
This is your chance to make a significant impact on the future of biomedical engineering and shape the direction of our esteemed Society. Whether you're a seasoned professional or an emerging leader, we welcome your enthusiasm and dedication to advance our field.
Nominations are open now. We invite you to put forward individuals – or self nominate – who embody the spirit of innovation, leadership, and collaboration that defines BMES. We seek those who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence and who share a vision for driving strategic change within our community.
About the Positions

President-Elect
The President of the Society presides over the Annual Business Meeting of the Society, serves as chair of the Board of Directors, and appoints and charges – with the approval of the Board of Directors – the chair of each committee of the Board of Directors except the Nominating Committee. The President will also carry out other activities pertaining to the office, as required by these Bylaws or the Board of Directors. The President may establish ad hoc committees with approval from the Board. The President is elected one year prior to the start of their term. The President-Elect shall serve in the place of the President in their absence. The President-Elect will automatically succeed to the presidency when the office becomes vacant. The President-Elect shall perform such duties as shall be assigned to them by the President or the Board of Directors.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR BMES PRESIDENT-ELECT
1. Performed effective service for a full term as a BMES Board member (as of 10/2025).
2. Willing to serve if selected for the ballot.
3. Can demonstrate multiple examples of high-level leadership within BMES, such as serving on the BMES Executive Committee, serving as Chair of the Annual Meeting, and/or serving a full term as a BMES Board member (as of inauguration date).
4. Has been a BMES member for 6+ years (cumulative, not including student membership).
5. Has attended 5+ BMES Annual Meetings (cumulative).
6. Has the ability to attend two in-person meetings each year, participate in monthly teleconferences with the Executive Committee, and to participate in bimonthly teleconferences with the Executive Director, and has time to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to them.

Treasurer
The Treasurer of the Society is responsible for keeping all financial records of the Society, including the annual audit, annual budgets, and income tax reports, and submitting the same to the Board of Directors. The Treasurer oversees bank accounts, and reports the receipt and disbursement of funds in accordance with the annual budget approved by the Board of Directors. The Treasurer shall also carry out such other duties as the Board may require.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR BMES BOARD TREASURER
1. Performed effective service for a full term as a BMES Board member (as of 10/2025).
2. Willing to serve if selected for the ballot.
3. Has been a BMES member for 5+ years (cumulative, not including student membership).
4. Has attended 5+ BMES Annual Meetings (cumulative).
5. Has the ability to attend two in-person meetings each year, participate in monthly teleconferences, and has time to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to them.

Director
The BMES Board of Directors is responsible for developing and sustaining activities focused on BMES’s mission. Primarily, members of the Board of Directors actively participate in setting strategy, goals, and objectives. In addition, members of the Board are expected to oversee programs and activities. Members of the BMES Board have a fiduciary responsibility to BMES.

Academia - Director
QUALIFICATIONS FOR BMES BOARD MEMBER (ACADEMIA)
1. Effective work in BMES, such as a track or session chair, committee member, abstract reviewer, etc.
2. Cumulative BMES membership for 3 or more years.
3. Attendance at 3 or more BMES Annual Meetings. Alternatively, attendance at 2+ BMES Annual Meetings PLUS one of the following:

Demonstrable experience representing the field of BME in your profession.
OR
-
BME-related leadership role at your institution/company.
4. Having the ability to attend two in-person meetings each year and to participate in at least three to five teleconferences and having time to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to them.

Industry - Director
QUALIFICATIONS FOR BMES BOARD MEMBER (INDUSTRY)
1. Effective work in BMES, such as a track or session chair, committee member, abstract reviewer, etc.
2. Cumulative BMES membership for 2 or more years.
3. Attendance at 2 or more BMES Annual Meetings. Alternatively, attendance at 1 BMES Annual Meeting PLUS one of the following:

Demonstrable experience representing the field of BME in your profession.
OR

A BME-related leadership role at your institution/company.
4. Having the ability to attend two in-person meetings each year and to participate in at least three to five teleconferences and having time to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to them.
