2022 BMES Annual Meeting Co-Chair

Dr. Billiar, Professor and Head of Biomedical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, is intrigued by mechanobiology, the way in which mechanical forces regulate the development and healing of connective tissues and the pathogenesis of disease. He directs the Tissue Mechanics and Mechanobiology Laboratory which creates controlled in vitro systems for studying mechanobiology and screening potential therapeutics.

Dr. Billiar is past Chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Bioengineering Division and of the BMES Education Committee and has served as a member of the BMES Board of Directors. He is an ASME Fellow, an AIMBE Fellow, a BMES Fellow, a Fulbright Scholar, a member of ASEE, the AHA, and the Biophysical Society among others. His research funding has included the NSF, the NIH, the AHA, the US Army, and the Whitaker Foundation.
