  Fellow Annual Dues:  $250
Honorary Fellow:  No dues
Postage outside US & Canada: $35
Canada: $10

Two new fellow categories have been approved for BMES. Fellow status will be awarded to Society members who demonstrate exceptional achievements and experience in the field of biomedical engineering, and a record of membership and participation in the Society.

Honorary Fellow status will be awarded to select individuals who may or may not be Society members, but meet all of the other non-membership fellow status criteria.

Fellow and Honorary Fellow status will initially be conferred by the BMES Board of Directors. In the first year, nominations for each of these categories will be made by Society members and the Board of Directors. A general email to members will also announce the process, so that members at large may give suggestions for nominations.

The format for Fellow nominations will be a nomination form (click here to download PDF), and a CV of the nominee. CVs are limited to a maximum of ten (10) pages. All BMES members may nominate candidates. No letters will be solicited, as the intention is for the Fellow Committee to make recommendations based on the content of the nominator’s comments and the substance of the CV itself.

Nomination criteria for BMES Fellow include:
1. Five or more years of membership in the Society. Note: The five year membership requirement does not require continuous membership in the Society.
2. Five or more years active participation as a biomedical engineer in the private or public sectors. Note: The five years active participation does not require continuous active participation.
3. A demonstrable record of exceptional achievement and accomplishment in a specific field of interest within biomedical engineering. The achievement and accomplishments can be in research, education, industry, public service, new technology, or clinical practice. Individuals making nomination recommendations must propose a citation summarizing these points in a statement of 30 words or less on the nomination form.

Proposed nomination criteria for BMES Honorary Fellow include:
1. A national or international reputation for exceptional achievement or accomplishments within a specific field of interest in biomedical engineering or contributing to advancements in biomedical engineering. Individuals making these nominations would be expected to propose a citation summarizing these points in a statement of 30 words or less.
2. Candidates for Honorary Fellow could include individuals whose scientific expertise or specialty focus might lead them to a Society or professional association membership in an organization other than BMES.

Nomination forms and accompanying CVs for Fellows will be accepted in writing, by fax, or in an electronic format. Electronic submission is preferred.
